🚫 Hormone Hype or Health Truth? The Testosterone Trend Women Need to Rethink.

By Coach Elle Jolie – Elle Jolie Wellness | Kelowna, BC

When Oprah Winfrey—one of the most powerful media voices in the world—steps into the menopause conversation, people listen. Her recent TV special “The Menopause Talk” featured celebrity guests like Leanne Morgan, Maria Shriver, Naomi Watts, and Halle Berry, diving into the chaos that many women experience in perimenopause and beyond.

Awareness? Long overdue.
Education? Needed.

But amidst the empowering moments were troubling endorsements of testosterone therapy for women, including pellet implants—a treatment that remains controversial and, in many cases, unregulated.

Let’s talk facts, not fame.

⚠️ What’s Really Going On With Testosterone Therapy?

Some naturopaths and anti-aging clinics are pushing testosterone like it’s the holy grail of midlife energy, libido, and weight loss. And here’s the kicker: many of these providers aren’t following clinical guidelines set out by institutions like the North American Menopause Society (NAMS) or Endocrine Society.

🚨 The reality?

  • Testosterone is not FDA-approved for use in women in Canada or the US (outside of very specific, low-dose applications for HSDD-Hypoactive sexual desire disorder.

  • High-dose pellets can’t be adjusted once implanted and have been tied to adverse effects: acne, hair loss, mood swings, voice deepening, and long-term hormonal disruption.

  • There is no evidence that these interventions promote long-term health, longevity, or emotional well-being.

💰 Who’s Profiting From This?

Let’s not pretend this is just about health. According to Dr. Kelly Casperson, a board-certified urologist, many of the practitioners pushing testosterone pellets receive incentive bonuses based on volume. In her words:

"If you’re making money off of putting pellets into patients, you’re not being objective about whether they need them."

When celebrity-backed platforms promote these “solutions” without full transparency or balanced medical input, women pay the price—not just financially, but with their long-term hormonal health.

🌿 What’s the Alternative? Looking at the Whole Woman

As a certified health coach, NSCA personal trainer and behavioural specialist, my job isn’t to push pellets or promise overnight miracles. It’s to look at the whole picture of a woman’s life: sleep, stress, blood sugar, fitness, inflammation, liver function, gut health, emotional support, and yes—her endocrine system.

Here’s what actually helps elevate hormones and restore balance:

  • 💪 Strength training to support testosterone and DHEA naturally

  • 🧘‍♀️ Stress-reduction practices like breathwork, sunlight, and circadian-friendly sleep routines to lower cortisol

  • 🥦 Nutrition strategies that support liver detoxification, reduce insulin resistance, and nourish adrenal function

  • 🧠 Behavioral coaching to shift habits, implement goals, and create lasting results

  • ❤️ Community and compassion to reduce isolation and build connection

This is what we do at Elle Jolie Wellness—real transformation, not hormone hype.
